Returning to the Golden Age of Shoemaking Craftsmanship

The Art of Shoemaking

ORINGO designs its footwear based on Asian foot shapes, utilizing high-quality leather and classic gentleman's shoe designs to create dress shoes unique to Taiwan. The leather sole footwear (Leather Sole)—exclusive in Taiwan—requires over 100 meticulous production steps and collaboration from master shoemakers with decades of experience. The authenticity and vitality displayed come directly from this artisanal skill. With every tap and every cut, the warmth of the human hand is infused into the shoes.

Exclusive Design and Development

Shoe Design

Every single pair of ORINGO shoes is developed and designed by senior designers. The process begins with last development, product positioning, and direction, followed by drafting and prototyping. Only after repeated modifications and fittings with the master craftsmen can the product be successfully completed.

LWG Certified Leather Select

Leather Select

The leather chosen by ORINGO is 100% genuine cow leather, processed using chrome tanning. The process of cutting the leather requires years of accumulated experience from the master craftsmen, who must carefully stretch the hide to avoid flawed areas and determine which parts are suitable for use in dress shoes.

Eighty percent (80%) of the leather used by ORINGO has passed the international LWG certification. LWG stands for "Leather Working Group," which promotes greater transparency in the leather supply chain to achieve sustainable development goals.

Meticulous Hand-Stitching Cutting & Sewing

Cutting & Sewing

The process involves cutting the shoe upper along the lines marked with a silver pen during the leather selection stage, and then meticulously stitching it. This includes skiving (thinning the edges), preparing the lining, folding edges, and piping. The lining is the first part of the shoe to come into contact with the foot, and the level of comfort largely depends on the meticulousness of the sewing and handwork.

Hand Lasting the Upper Lasting

Lasting

Lasting is the process of shaping the shoe upper to fully conform and adhere to the shoe last through hammering. This step is the best display of a master craftsman's decades of skill. Small iron nails are used to secure the upper onto the last, and the material is continuously hammered to achieve a smooth and permanent shape. After this step, the shoe is placed into an oven for baking and final shape setting.

Outsole Craftsmanship Sole

Sole

The outsole is the most critical part supporting the feet and bearing a person's entire weight. The sole determines the comfort of the shoe during walking.

ORINGO's handmade leather shoes are divided into Leather Sole and Rubber Sole options. Among these, the Leather Sole is exclusively made by ORINGO in all of Taiwan, representing the artisanal value we firmly uphold.

Leather Sole

Hidden Stitch Technique

We use Italian MARCA TORO leather outsoles, which are meticulously hand-stitched using the refined Blake Construction method. Furthermore, the stitching is embedded using the "Hidden Stitch Technique" , where a shoemaker's knife is used to slice a thin 0.08 cm layer into the sole before stitching, thereby highlighting the leather outsole's lightness and breathability.

Rubber Sole

Exclusive LibreSole Rubber

ORINGO's rubber outsoles use Taiwanese rubber materials known for their stable quality. In addition to collaborating with international brands such as Vibram and Dr. Sole on outsoles, we have also developed our own LibreSole rubber outsole. This material is wear-resistant and flexible (soft yet resilient) to meet the needs of the modern gentleman for use in casual settings.

Shoe Upper Polishing and Finishing

polishing

The final finishing processes for the shoe include coloring the sole edge, cleaning the shoe upper, waxing and oiling, tidying the leather surface, and heat-setting with hot air. A high-quality handmade shoe, through careful polishing and waxing, can achieve a flawless leather surface, demonstrating attention to every detail of the final process.
