LWG International Certified Leather

Tracing the Origin While Protecting the Environment

Eighty percent (80%) of the leather used by ORINGO has passed the international LWG certification. LWG stands for "Leather Working Group," a non-profit organization that establishes an auditing standard system to promote greater transparency in the leather supply chain and achieve sustainable development goals.

Most importantly, the LWG strictly regulates the production of Hexavalent Chromium, a substance harmful to health that can be generated during leather processing. By choosing LWG-certified leather, we not only protect the environment but also safeguard public health.

Classification of Genuine Leather

Leather is the skin of every pair of shoes. Genuine leather is characterized by its breathability, softness, and elasticity. While the surface may occasionally show slight imperfections, these are what make genuine leather truly unique.

Through different processing and treatment methods, the leather can be given a wider variety of appearances.

Pull-up Leather

The interaction between the wax/oil and the leather's base color creates a subtle and understated sheen at the flex points of the leather. If you look closely, you can see the natural leather grain. It has a soft yet resilient feel, making it an excellent material for shoe and boot uppers, and it is also commonly used for making leather goods like bags and jackets.

Waxy Leather

Waxy Leather

Waxy Cowhide is a type of leather made by sanding, oiling, and finally waxing top-grain cowhide. The distinct marks and patina will develop differently depending on each person's frequency of wear, habits, and maintenance methods.

Pigmented Leather

The surface of the leather is polished and then coated with one or more layers of a special finish (or coating) to enhance both the color and the luster.

The reason that the uppers of "white sneakers" are clean and the color is uniform is due to the use of this lightly coated leather.

3M Water-Repellent Suede

Suede

Suede is made from the flesh side  of top-grain leather, while Split Suede is processed from split leather, which has a finer texture. Today, the term Suede is often used interchangeably for both types, characterized by a napped, velvety surface and flexible leather.

Thanks to modern technology, suede can now be treated to be water and oil-repellent immediately upon contact.

Marks on Leather

Symbols of Life and Age

Some textures and marks on the leather are not flaws. They may be traces left by the cattle from insect bites, growth, or scuffles with other animals.

These are the precious qualities of genuine leather. To avoid wasting excessive amounts of material, master craftsmen strive to make good use of every part of the hide.

Pores

Leather is animal skin, and just like human skin, it has pores.

Scars

Marks left from a cattle's injury or insect bites.

Growth Lines

Lines reflecting the cattle's growth, or wrinkles from the neck and belly areas.

Vascular Lines

Areas where blood vessels passed close to the surface of the cattle's skin.
